15  Ways to Refresh Your Home for Spring

As soon as the calendar flips to the new year, thoughts turn to spring. Spring represents a new season filled with sun, a return to warmer weather, new life, and summer being just around the corner. Spring also brings the urge to clean, freshen and pack away winter. Today we want to share some easy things you can do in your home to refresh your home for spring and welcome the new season.

Spring Clean

Set the stage for your decor updates with a solid spring cleaning. This may mean decluttering your home of the things that have accumulated over the winter, washing all the linens, having carpets cleaned and floors waxed. Think of it as starting with a clean slate for your fresh spring decor ideas! If you have no time for anything else, this one task will refresh your home for spring faster than anything else you can do!

Rearrange

Some spaces only allow for specific furniture arrangements, while others may have multiple options for your furniture. If you have options, play around with a new furniture arrangement. Sometimes your space will be used differently in the spring and summer months, think about how the room should flow and then reimagine the layout. If your room does not allow for new furniture configurations, not to worry! You can make plenty of other changes for a fresh spring vibe.

Update Your Rugs

If you live in a home with area rugs, consider swapping them out when the seasons change. Not only is it a great way to give your home a quick change, but you can also take the opportunity to clean the winter carpets before you put them away. Spring and summer is the perfect time to place brightly colored and patterned area rugs that would be out of place in the midst of fall and winter.

Pop of Color

We are obsessed with color here at CoCreative Interiors, so we are on board anytime there is a chance to add a bold pop of color! Often, our clients are not ready to go all-in on bright colors, so adding accents is a great way to dip a toe in the color pool. We think that by adding a bold pillow, serving tray, or other accent pieces for spring, you will be able to decide if this is a style that you might like to incorporate into your home year-round.

Textile Swap

Spring means warmer temperatures, so it is the perfect time to pack away the flannel sheets, heavy comforters, and extra quilts. Replace them with lighter fabrics, like cotton or linen. Textiles are another excellent place to experiment with colors and patterns, so don't be afraid to try something new!

Change Your Throw Pillows

Throw pillows are a high-touch item in a home. People lean on them and move them around, becoming faded and flat. The changing seasons are the perfect time to replace the pillow inserts and change the covers. Replace the heavier fabric covers like velvets with crisp linens. This simple change can really brighten up your living space!

Patios & Porches

Spring is a time to return to outdoor living! Spend some time cleaning up your patio and porch areas. Clean or replace old furniture and add new cushions and lanterns, so the spaces are ready for warm evenings with a glass of rosé!

Freshen Up Your Exterior

Don't forget the exterior of your home when freshening up for spring. An easy exterior addition is window and railing boxes. They are inexpensive and will brighten the look of your home and provide a place to grow your favorite plants and flowers. You can enjoy looking out the window at your flowers, and your neighbors can also enjoy as they pass by.

Paint

Nothing can change the look of a room faster than new paint. If you are game for a more extensive project, you can tackle painting on your own. Or, if you want to be more hands-off, hire a painter to come in and get the job done. Spring is the perfect time to try out a bold color in your home. Choose a room that could be the testing area for a bright kelly green or deep blue. The beauty of paint is that it is a quick change that can be revised again if your tastes change in the future.

New Shower Curtain

We adore a wallpapered bathroom, but that is not always feasible. Add a new shower curtain if you cannot go with a full bathroom wall update. Changing a shower curtain is a quick and easy way to create the illusion that you've updated your whole bathroom. We love a light and airy fabric and bold color that coordinates with your existing decor and fixtures for spring.

Change Your Curtains

Curtains and window treatments are a huge focal point in any room. We get very used to them, so making a change has a HUGE visual impact. Replacing your heavy winter draperies with something colorful and light can immediately take your home from winter to spring. Drapes can be a significant investment, so if you want something light for spring and summer, consider something off the rack at a home decor store instead of something custom.

New Lampshades

A lampshade is such an easy thing to change in your home, and all it takes is finding the right shade. Not only can you change the lampshades on your table lamps, but you can also make changes to your chandeliers, floor lamps, and wall sconces. This is one of the most inexpensive yet most effective home decor ideas for spring. In the spring, we recommend something bright and cheerful. If you have neutral lampshades now, consider adding a simple ribbon or fringe to create a quick and temporary update.

Change Your Hardware

There are so many places in your home that have knobs and pulls. Simply switching these to something new can change the entire room's look. Swapping your hardware on your dressers, cabinets, and drawers is an easy way to update for the spring.

Play with Scent

Certain scents evoke a feeling or memory instantly. While it is not a visual change, a new fragrance can lighten up your home, bring spring to life, and create a different atmosphere in your home. Adding scented candles, soaps, or reed air fresheners adds a sense layer to your home that you and your guests can enjoy.

Decorate with Fresh Flowers

Finally, what says spring has arrived more than fresh flowers! It is the absolute easiest way to add a pop of freshness and color to a room. Whether you grab a bouquet from your grocery store or visit a farmers market, there are so many bright and beautiful blooms that come with the spring season. Decorating with fresh flowers is easy and can be done in every room of your home. From dining room centerpieces to nightstand-friendly bud vases, there's no place in your home that would not benefit from fresh flowers. Fresh flowers bring nature inside and is an inexpensive and beautiful way to refresh your home for spring.
